The Culzean Castle

This is a picture of Culzean Castle,
situated near Turnberry on the Ayrshire coast,
Scotland. Taken in the evening sunlight the castle
has an almost, "fairytale castle" look.
Culzean Castle is probably the most
photographed castle in Scotland. It stands on the
site of a 15th century Kennedy stronghold but was
completely redesigned by Robert Adam between 1777
and 1792, under the 10th Earl of Cassillis into a
more baronial style home. The castle has a 565-acre
country park and gardens, designed by Alexander
Nasmyth and one of its many claims to fame is that
President Eisenhower stayed at the castle several
times due to his wartime role as Allied Supreme
Commander (Europe). Owned by the National
Trust you can also stay at the apartments used
by Eisenhower.
