The British Army Lobster Tail Military Helmet Pictures
This is a picture of a British Military helmet used by mounted troops during the 17th Century. Commonly referred to as a lobster tail type of military helmet.
The helmet is believed to have belonged to Alexander Leslie, 1st Earl of Leven (1582 – 4 April 1661) who was a Scottish soldier in the Dutch, Swedish and Scottish armies. Born illegitimate and raised as a foster child, he found fame and fortune in the service of firstly the Dutch, advancing to the rank of captain, then in Sweden as a Field Marshal, and finally in Scotland he became lord general in command of the Covenanters, Lord Balgonie and Earl of Leven.
